Straight Talk Alcohol and other drugs Ideal for youth with learning or emotional disabilities. Presents frank testimonials of 19 teens with significant chemical dependencies and violent acting out issues. They represent a cross section of today's youth, from ages 12 to 21. Straight Talk's hard-hitting approach is effective even with the most difficult-to-reach kids. Winner of the top award at the National Education Video Festival and an Academy Award entrant-documentary category. The award-winning soundtrack and docudrama style make it engaging fare for youthful viewers. Includes three 30 minute videos and a 95 page instructor's guide, closed captioned. Violent Times - Violence prevention was a recent winner at the Columbus International Film Festival. These three videos feature frank interviews with teens who have been raised in a milieu of violence and have learned how to come to grips with it. Kids in this series have experienced violence as perpetrators, as witnesses and as victims. Many were victimized early in life and acted out as teens. Now they're learning to cope with their past and prepare for their future. Includes an acclaimed discussion guide and three videos, 25 min. each, closed captioned. 1996. Values and Social Skills in a Multicultural World These three new videos are for students with learning and emotional disabilities. The straightforward documentary style "will mesmerize viewers", according to the School Library Journal. Eight teens with diverse backgrounds discuss how personal experiences effect self-esteem, morals, values and social skills. Specific topics covered include: Family life, puberty, questioning authority, getting into trouble, racial prejudice, and relationship abuse. Includes three 25 min. videos and a discussion guide, closed captioned. 1997.

Tactile Discrimination Game. Try dividing the objects by theme. Good examples are: objects from nature, dishes and cutlery, or grooming aids. To make the game easier, try offering fewer choices and supply a picture of the objects under the cover. Can your child tell the toothbrush from the hairbrush?
