School can be hard for children with AD/HD. Success in school often means being able to pay attention and control behavior and impulse. These are the areas where children with AD/HD have trouble. Here are tips for teachers for helping kids learn.

Swimming Pool Safety Tip.

Special swimming concerns for the child with spina bifida!
Swimming can be one of the best forms of physical activities for kids with spina bifida. Extra caution is needed in the shallow end, as the pool floor poses a special hazard for a child who is without sensation in the legs.
,To promote safety, try:
1. A swim aid like the Dolphin Swim Suit to allow more time in the deeper end.
,2. Wearing protective clothing on the legs.
3. Teaching the child to frequently visually inspect their feet for signs of damage.
4. If the child can walk in the water, water shoes can be very good.
5. Don't forget to check the latex-status! Most of Dragonfly's swim aids are marked as latex-free, but always ask about pool products if your child has a latex allergy. The pool is no place for a surprise.

Why do they put everything in their mouths?
One of the earliest fine moter skill children develop is the skill of "sensation". Sensation is the skill we use to tell the difference between a quarter and a dime by touch without needing to look at the coins.
Cognitively young children have their best sensation descrimination in their mouths. By mouthing objects and then feeling them with their hands, children correlate the sensations from two different sensory input channels.
,This "sensory intgration" helps them to tune up the sensory apparatus in the hands. As the hands become more sensitive, children will need to put things in their mouths less and less.
During this oral stage it is important to offer many textured grasp and handle toys. Dragonfly offers a full collection of well designed and easy to handle toys of this type.
